Dear Grade Three Parents,

Sorry for the late post but the Internet has not been working consistently at the school.

Students showed their understanding of two-digit addition by REPRESENTING their thinking by either drawing base ten blocks (ten rods or one units) or expanded form (pulling apart numbers into their tens and ones) to solve different questions of their choice. Grade three expectation is to eventually get up to amounts up to 1,000.

We continued to work on our shooting skills with the basketball, remembering the acronym, BEEF.
B-bend your knees
E-elbow points to the net
E-eyes on the target
F-follow through

After gym, we had a special presentation from Mr. Mike, a parent from the school who is passionate about fish and has set up and maintains the fish tank in our prairie for years. He talked about how to test if the water is acidic or alkaline and the different plants and fish that make up the ecosystem.
Did you know there are about 40 fish in the tank!
Ask me what my favourite part from the presentation was.

Because it was Bell Let's Talk Day for mental health, we did a sharing circle about what students do when they feel sad, when they feel angry and how they can help someone else.  Ask me if I shared and what tools help me.
Reminders:
  • Thursday, January 25 is Healthy Hunger lunch for Subway.
  • Signed field trip forms are due by Friday, January 26th. Our field trip day is Tuesday, January 30. The field trip fee is on your MyCBE account for payment and MUST be paid online.
  • There are many items being sent to the lost and found by the gym.  It is recommended that you label your child's belongings so they can easily be returned when lost.
  • Report cards will be available for parents to view online on Jan. 30.

From the Grade Threes
